One of my reasons for setting up this blog was to have a place for people to read, reflect, and do something. A.K.A. Allow my friends to have one, organized place to find a lot of the sign on opportunities that I send out. However, I still plan to send their email accounts great info on such topics. 🙂
So, here are quite a few that have come my way. Open the link to read a bit more, and if you agree, take 30 seconds to fill out your info- and it sends it right to your Senator!
Don’t think these messages don’t count! Senators have employees who track these responses and assign staffers to work on these issues.
Save children’s lives by supporting the Global Child Survival Act. “24,000 children under 5 years old die every single day – most of them from preventable causes like diarrhea, pneumonia, and malnutrition. In addition, lack of basic health and nutrition interventions during and after birth costs the lives of too many mothers and newborns.
Health experts believe that simply by scaling up access to low-cost, high-impact interventions, it is possible to save millions of young lives a year”.
Support the Safe Cosmetics Act of 2010 (H.R.5786) This bill “…will strengthen FDA oversight and regulation of the $50 billion cosmetics industry. Doing so will ensure that cosmetics do not contain ingredients or contaminants linked to adverse health effects, and close loopholes that prevent consumers from knowing what’s in their products”.
Sponsor the International Violence Against Women Act:“It is estimated that one in every three women worldwide will experience violence in her lifetime. The International Violence Against Women Act (S 2982) would make addressing violence against women a diplomatic priority for the United States and integrate anti-violence efforts across U.S. foreign assistance programs”.
Act in Jubliee: Pass Debt Relief: Support this letter that will be sent to President Obama, asking for action to help achieve the Millennium Development Goals. This includes expanded debt cancellation for impoverished countries and responsible sovereign finance.
