On the phone with my dear friend Brig we had the following exchange:
Me “I woke up in such a funk. I couldn’t shake it. Meditation, breathing, nope. So, I told myself ‘well you can be frustrated about this today, or accept it and still try to have a good day’ “.
Brig: “Way to be so zen . What are you a Buddhist monk?”
Ain’t nothing like good friends, no?
A few minutes later, I made some similar statement and referred to an inner dialogue of that “zen master” and my dramatic state. How I have to balance what I know I can be with my default reactionary state .
“Ah”, said Brig, “thanks for that- I do that too!”
And isn’t that ok? To strive for that higher, ‘better’ state of being, while still being who we are today?
YES. YES. YES.
Because that is being human. And in the words of my younger, just-as-wise self, “to begin is to progress”.
Is there an area of your life that you have mastered this balance of the now and what you hope to be in the future?
